  • Message from National President

It is my great honor to be elected as the 2016 National President of Junior Chamber International, Cambodia. Being in this role, I have a new golden opportunity and privilege to more actively work with other JCI leaders around the world to empower young people to create positive changes in their communities. Personally, I also believe that we are running a great business only when our business and ourselves bring value and positive changes to the society and the world.

JCI has been around, making positive impacts in the world, for 100 years; business people, professionals, students and citizens from different places are putting their heads, hearts and hands together to achieve one mission – making a better world. JCI Cambodia, in particular, was established in 2011 and has contributed a lot to the betterment of Cambodian society through many projects in the areas of community work, business, individual development and international collaboration. All past national presidents of JCI Cambodia have displayed a great leadership model and still continue to support JCI Cambodia’s activities all the time. Also, I always appreciate the devotion, commitment and efforts of our members in implementing impactful projects around the country.

As the 2016 National President, I am committed to nurturing JCI Cambodia’s legacy and empowering Cambodian young people to create more positive changes in Cambodian communities and in the world. All our members will also have more opportunities to develop themselves in their social leadership, career life and businesses.

    Let’s make 2016 a year of Passion & Legacy!

    Pech Bolene

    2016 National President

  • About JCI and JCI Cambodia

    About JCI

JCI is a nonprofit organization of young active citizens age 18 to 40 in 5,000 communities and more than 115 countries around the world who are engaged and committed to creating impact in their communities.

Each JCI Member shares the belief that in order to create lasting positive change, we must improve ourselves and the world around us. We seek targeted solutions to the unique problems in our communities to build a better world, creating global impact.

JCI Vision: To be the leading global network of young active citizens.

JCI Mission: To provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change.

    JCI Values:

    • That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life

    • That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations

    • That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise

    • That government should be of laws rather than of men

    • That earth's great treasure lies in human personality

    • And that service to humanity is the best work of life.

    Founder, 1914:

JCI founder Henry Giessenbier Jr. founded the Herculaneum Dance Club in 1910. In 1914, they merged with six other dance clubs to form the Federation of Dance Clubs and Giessenbier was elected President. However, he wanted to be part of something more focused on community engagement. And that was the beginning of JCI.

    About JCI Cambodia

More 30 years ago, there were efforts in creating a JCI National Organization in Cambodia. Due to wars and other political instability, the set up was not successful.

In 2007, two outstanding Cambodian students, Mr. Va Vireak and Mrs. Lay Kanika, who were doing short management and entrepreneurial course at Cambodia Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC), were invited to attend the Young Leader Summit, organizing by JCI Japan. They met with 2007 JCI World President and other JCI National Presidents from Asia Pacific.

In 2008, together with Mrs. Lay Chanrasmey, Mr. Chhen Chandara, and Mr. Heng Samnang, they were motivated & encouraged to formulate JCI in Cambodia with the visit from APDC team and conduct the Global Training School (GTS).

From 2008 to 2009, Asia Pacific Development Council had several trips to Cambodia to recruit and to motivate more key business leaders to join the set up of JCI Cambodia.

In 2010 and 2011, Mr. Chy Sila, began forming a committee to get the organization recognized officially by JCI as well as the Cambodian government. In 2012, the then JCI Cambodia's National President, Mr. Kouch Sokly, and the board of directors succeeded in getting approval from JCI in making JCI Cambodia a FULLY AFFILIATED member of JCI.

  • History

JCI Cambodia granted JCI FULLY AFFILIATED MEMBERSHIP in 2012

How JCI Cambodia Was Founded and Developed

JCI Cambodia is very young organization compared to most other JCI National Organizations around the world and in the Asia Pacific area. However, JCI Cambodia is a very proud and strong National Organization with great passion to provide positive change to our community.

Back in 2008 and and 2009, the aim of creating JCI Cambodia was to unite and utilize local business networks in Phnom Penh. The implementations, however, did not turn out as we, the founding members, had expected. We experienced trials and errors in many projects. Soon later, we learned that JCI is not only a place to create business networks alone. We learned that JCI's strength is with the passion of its like-minded members to learn how to lead and to change to be better.

In 2010, a few founding members managed to contact Mr. Chy Sila, co-founder of CBM Corporation and Sabay Digital, to help set up an officially recognized association in Cambodia. After researching, trainings and encouragement of JCI around the world, Mr. Chy Sila agreed to join and had the association legally recognized by the Ministry of Interior later in 2010. He formed a committee of young entrepreneurs and young professionals in Phnom Penh to work on many community and business related to projects. Soon JCI Cambodia was officially approved to be a Potential Member and Provisional Member in 2010 and 2011 respectively. In 2012, the second National President of JCI Cambodia, Mr. Kouch Sokly, and his board of directors led JCI Cambodia to become FULLY AFFILIATED JCI Member at World Congress in Taiwan.

Starting with less than 10 founding members, today JCI Cambodia has over 90 members and over 100 volunteers run by two local Chapters. We are on our way to creating the third Chapter in the near future.
